Wendy graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997 with her undergraduate degree in

Communication Science & Disorders and a minor in Psychology.  She attended the University of North Carolina – Greensboro and received her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology in the year 2000.  She then worked for Durham Public Schools at the elementary and middle school levels for 5 years.  During that time, she pursued contract work after school with the early intervention population.  In June 2005, Wendy concentrated her efforts solely with early intervention and founded ‘Talk About It’ Speech & Language Therapy Services in October 2006.  Experiences include working with children with autism, cognitive deficits, ‘at risk’ children, cerebral palsy, augmentative communication as well as receptive/expressive language delays and speech sound disorders/delays.  Wendy is especially interested in pragmatic language disorder/social skills deficits, speech & language delays/disorders, and working with ‘at risk’ children, including preemies (especially after having one of her own) and adolescents with language disorders.

Tonja received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders with a minor in Psychology from UNC-Greensboro in 1993.  She worked as a preschool teacher for one and a half years before pursuing a Masters of Education in Communication Disorders from North Carolina Central University in 1998.  While obtaining her Masters degree, Tonja worked as a speech therapist in Wake County Public Schools with Preschool through Middle School age children.  She spent 11 years working for Durham Public Schools Exceptional Children’s Preschool Program with children who have Apraxia of speech, developmental delays, speech-language delays, Autism, Down Syndrome, hearing impairment, multiple handicaps, cerebral palsy, and other rare syndromes. She is a member of the Durham Public Schools Assistive Technology Team, performing augmentative communication evaluations, computer access assessments, technical evaluations as well as consultations and set-ups in all areas. She began working with Talk About It in October, 2008.  

Kim graduated from Texas Christian University in 1993 with her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She attended the University of Memphis for graduate school and received her Master's degree in Speech Pathology in 1995. Since then, she has worked with the pediatric population at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, the Fayetteville Developmental Evaluation Center (presently Children's Developmental Services Agency), Arlington Public Schools, and Durham Public Schools. She has worked for Talk About It Speech and Language Services over the past 2 years. Kim has worked with early intervention, preschool-age, and school-age (up through middle school) children. She is a PROMPT-trained therapist and has particular interests in working with children with augmentative and alternative communication needs, apraxia, articulation, and language delays/disorders.

Janelle graduated from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2008 with her undergraduate degree in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and a minor in Exceptionalities. She received her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010. During her education, she worked with early intervention, preschool, and school-age children at the Raleigh Children’s Developmental Services Agency, the Aspen Center, and Orange County Schools. She has worked with children with a variety of needs including autism, childhood apraxia of speech, cognitive delays/impairments, language delays/disorders, phonological disorders, and sensory disorders. She is particularly interested in autism, phonological disorders, language delays/disorders, and augmentative and alternative communication needs.

Brooke grew up in the Green Mountain State of Vermont. She has worked with children with special needs since junior high school. Brooke received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of North Carolina- Greensboro . After completing her masters in 2010 she worked in the Asheville schools for 2 years. She was also employed part time at a long term care facility. When Brooke began working as a community based clinician in 2012 she found her niche working with young children and their families. She enjoys building a strong rapport with caregivers and providing therapy in the child’s natural environment for the most effective outcome. She has a particular interest in early intervention and children with unintelligible speech and apraxia. Her experience includes treatment of articulation and phonological disorders, fluency disorders, apraxia, receptive and expressive language delays, autism spectrum disorders, cognitive impairments, and children with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and use of augmentative communication systems. Brooke joined Talk About It in 2016.

Graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Disorders from North Carolina State University in 1996 and received a Masters of Education in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology/Communication Disorders in 1999. During education, worked at The

University of North Carolina Hospital at Chapel Hill, Ballard and Associates Speech Therapy Services, Umstead Hospital, and Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, VA.  Work experience includes Preschool, Elementary and Middle school settings as well as

private practice.  Experience working with individuals with Apraxia of Speech, Articulation delays/disorders, Aspergers syndrome, receptive and expressive language delays/disorders, fluency disorders, and Autism. Especially interested in the preschool, early

intervention, and school age population.

Stacey is a native North Carolinian and lives in Durham with her husband and two children. She attended Appalachian State University, receiving a B.A. in Communication Disorders with a minor in Psychology in 2008 and a M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology in 2010. Stacey has worked with adults and pediatrics in a variety of settings, but is especially passionate about helping children! She believes therapy should be individualized, positive, and engaging. She strives to build strong rapport with clients and their families and offers practical ideas to help clients meet their communication goals. Stacey has experience working with children with articulation/phonological disorders, receptive-expressive language disorders, developmental delays, fluency disorders, auditory processing disorders and autism spectrum disorder. She also has training and experience with augmentative and alternative communication and speech generating devices. Stacey is licensed by the state of NC and is certified by the

American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Leah earned a Master of Science in Speech in Hearing Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is now completing her clinical fellowship at ‘Talk About It’ Speech and Language Therapy Services. Leah has served pre-K and elementary school students with complex communication needs, autism spectrum disorder, and speech-language delays in the Durham Public School system. Leah also served on multidisciplinary teams at the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities to evaluate and provide recommendations for children from infancy through school age with developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, hearing loss, visual impairment, and rare genetic syndromes. While earning her masters degree, Leah completed training to serve children with hearing loss as part of a grant provided by the Office of Special Education Programs. Leah is passionate about collaborating with caregivers of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers to develop and strengthen strategies that support their child’s communication, learning, and development. Prior to pursuing speech-language pathology, Leah received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from UNC Chapel Hill, concentrating in cello performance. Leah still teaches and plays the cello when she is not spending time with her 1-year-old daughter and husband.
